Program 2 - Mapping Hollywood Beach

Part 1: Tracking Changes on Hollywood Beach

Students receive education on the abiotic and biotic factors that influence a beach face. Following, students are able to explore Hollywood beach and record key information on a data sheet while learning how to conduct scientific investigation and use scientific instruments to obtain information about the beach face. Classes can record this information in a binder and repeat data collection multiple times during the year to track how the beach can change due to weather and seasonal influences.

Part 2: Tracking Trash on Hollywood Beach

Students conduct a beach clean-up and catalogue the debris found on a designated sheet. This information is then incorporated into the database at FMLC.  Students can learn how to analyze and chart data points to track the trash found on the beach. Furthermore, students can gain an appreciation for our environmental responsibility.
